Dr Patricia Kaazan MD, FRACP is a consultant Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist. She has a special interest in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), clinical nutrition, bowel cancer surveillance and disorders of the gut-brain interaction.
Patricia was born and raised in Lebanon and holds a MD from the Lebanese University.
She moved to Australia in late 2012 and completed her physician training at the Central Adelaide Local Health Network and her gastroenterology training between the Royal Adelaide Hospital and Logan Hospital. She then completed a two-year luminal fellowship at Princess Alexandra Hospital (Brisbane) with a special focus on Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), clinical nutrition and endoscopy.
She holds a graduate diploma in abdominal sonography and is an active member of the International Bowel Ultrasound (IBUS) Group. She is an IBUS-accredited Module 2 supervisor at IBDSA, having completed advanced sub-specialty training in intestinal ultrasound at the Mater Hospital in Brisbane and in perineal ultrasound at the Kitasato University Hospital in Tokyo, Japan. She is also involved in gastrointestinal ultrasound (GiUS) clinical trials.
She is accredited to perform endoscopies, colonoscopies and capsule endoscopies.
She is currently completinga PhD examining the impact of obesity and visceral adiposity on inflammatory bowel disease.
She is passionate about medical education and is actively involved in trainees teaching and supervision, podcasts, and educational meetings.
She is a regular invited speaker in local, national and international meetings.
She serves as Associate Editor of Crohn’s & Colitis 360, the official journal of the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation.
Patricia is a member of SA group of specialists and IBDSA, a dedicated private IBD service with gastroenterologists, surgeons, psychologists, dieticians, radiologists and IBD nurses.
She consults at Calvary Adelaide Hospital and 480 Windsor Gardens Specialist centre. She performs gastrointestinal ultrasound (GiUS) at Calvary Adelaide and endoscopic procedures at Calvary Adelaide and Tennyson centre.
She holds a public appointment at Flinders Medical Centre.
She holds an academic appointment as Senior Clinical Lecturer and GI Block Lead at Flinders University College of Medicine and Public Health, contributing to the teaching and supervision of medical students.
